Abstract: The aim of the study is to examine the phonological awareness of children with typical development and diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. In the research, descriptive survey model, one of the descriptive research models included in the quantitative research methods, was used. In the 2020-2021 academic year, a total of 64 children, 60-93 months of age in Istanbul, were included in the study. Ankara Developmental Inventory (AGTE) and Early Literacy Skills Test, Phonological Awareness subtest (EROT) and personal information form were used as data collection tools in the study, which aims to evaluate the development of children aged 0-6. All statistical analyzes were done with IBM SPSS 25.0 program. Descriptive and comparative statistical techniques were used in the analyses. It was observed that there was no significant difference in AGTE and EROT scores by gender, chronological age, presence of developmental diagnosis, and developmental age variables. In the study, it was concluded that the phonological awareness levels of children increased with the increase in reading together with the parents, the increase in the education level of the parents and the increase in the socioeconomic level.
