Abstract: Teacher motivation is crucial for the success of English language teaching, yet many teachers face demotivating factors that hinder their effectiveness. This study aims to understand the perspectives of EFL teachers in the private sectors in Turkey on these motivational factors, identify causes of demotivation in their current roles, and explore potential solutions. Using a mixed methods approach, we surveyed 50 EFL teachers in Turkish Private Schools to examine intrinsic and extrinsic factors influencing their motivation, challenges in maintaining motivation, and possible strategies for addressing these challenges. Our research reveals a disparity between perceived and actual motivational factors experienced by teachers in their schools. By uncovering these insights, this study provides valuable contributions to understanding motivation in education, offering implications for teacher support, and enhancing English language teaching practices.
