dc.description.abstract Cinema is an art and a means of communication that has been included within the research scope of numerous disciplines. The factor putting forward its uniqueness is that it is comprised of cinematographic images. Image is the essence of the visual culture. Visual culture has been approached through a pedagogical perspective since the second half of the 20th Century. It was especially this period, during which scientific and artistic developments in the field of cinema approximated cinema and pedagogy and led education to have new function. In this respect, this article discusses usability of cinema, as an audio-visual means of communication and an art, for instruction of cinematographic images; on a theoretical basis, mainly through the approaches of Christian Metz. Metz addresses teachability of the image on two separate levels; that is image and instruction, and the instruction of image. The article mainly focuses on instruction of the image (cinematographic image.) Consequently, when the student realizes the expression of the film besides its content through instruction of the cinematographic image and comprehends that it is not only the image but also the discourse of the object one must learn; critical approach will become possible while stereotypes will be avoided, leading the way to critical approaches. Hence, this is a strong indicator pointing out that cinema can play a significant role in education as long as the audio-visual culture it created does not favors a fanaticism alienating the literature and the written information. tr_TR
