A TRANSHUMANIST APPROACH TO BRAVE NEW WORLD AND WE: SYNTHETIC HAPPINESS

Abstract

“A Transhumanist Approach to Brave New World and We: Synthetic Happiness”(AYDIN University 06, 2019) discusses the concepts of happiness and unquestionability influencing literature, cinema and the world of philosophy, and points out the “passivation” phenomenon. The purpose of this thesis study is to use the Brave New World and We novels to examine transhumanism’s dystopic elements by the connections between the technology and literature which have a great impact on humanity. In the world entering a mechanical process with technology, people have become increasingly unhappy in the passivated world, as explained by theories such as simulation theory and the unhappiness surrounding all of humanity. In the context of the Brave New World and We novels’ mechanization in a dystopian perspective, the novels’ politics, power, sociologies, and philosophies, as well as their concepts, including utopia and dystopia, have been analysed and discussed in this report within the frameworks of transhumanism and the simulation theory after reviewing their conceptual frameworks and correlated historical background.
