Abstract: This study aims to evaluate smart urban furniture design standards on the example of smart bus stop design. For this purpose, smart urban furniture design standards are gathered under seven headings including safety, form and character, function, value, maintenance, sustainability, and technology. After examining the examples of the limited number of smart city furniture in Istanbul, the checklist related to smart furniture design criteria was tested at Yıldız Technical University smart stop located in Beşiktaş, Istanbul. To explain the results more clearly, a traditional stop near the smart stop was also evaluated simultaneously. Looking at the comparative results; It has been determined that smart bus stop offers a more comfortable use environment in terms of technology and security than traditional bus stops. Urban furniture has an extremely determining effect on the relations between people and society in the context of urban space. Nowadays, in urban design applications, urban furniture is considered as an integral part of the space, and special attention is paid to the design of urban furniture in urban design studies. Urban furniture determines, regulates, and limits the relations of the city dwellers with people, institutions, and the city; They are the reinforcement elements that meet the urban needs of the citizens. Public spaces; especially with the development of technology, In order to support the high quality of life, defense, and economic development, they have begun to transform into sustainable active public spaces with the totality of energy flow, materials, services, and costs. Smart Urban Technologies are indispensable for change and are becoming increasingly important today in terms of real-time data capture, energy generation, storage and reuse, material adaptability, real-time management of time use, and public space interaction. At this stage, smart urban furniture, which has an important place in increasing the comfort of urban life in smart city technologies, emerges as issues that should be considered in planning, design, and maintenance processes. The main subject of this thesis will be to determine the principles of Smart Urban Furniture design.
